Online Poker Rooms :: Texas Holdem Rules

In this game a player receives two downcards as their personal hand (holecards). After the player has got both the cards, the betting round begins. Three broadcards are turned simultaneously (called the ‘Flop') and then another round of betting is done. The next two broadcards are turned one at a time, with a round of betting after each card. A player can use all the broadcards and no personal cards to form a hand (play the board).

All this was a little sneak peak into how to play the game. Now lets talk about the rules of the game. The rules are basically guidelines on how to play the game effectively without crossing the permissible limit. And what happens once you cross that permissible limit.

If the first holecard dealt is exposed, a mislead results. The dealer then retrieves the card, reshuffles it and re-cuts the card. If the dealer exposes any holecard, by mistake, the deal carries on without interruption.

The cards must be redealt if the flops contain too many cards. (This applies even if it were possible to know which card was the extra one)

If the dealer deals an extra card to a player, after having dealt cards to everybody else, the card is returned to the deck and used as a burncard. But, if the dealer mistakenly deals two extra cards, then it's a misdeal.

Before throwing your cards, a player must declare that he is playing the board. Inability to do so may result in a player relinquishing the entire dealers claim to the pot.

If the flop needs to be re-dealt because the cards were prematurely flopped before the betting was complete, or the flop contained too many words, the boardcards are mixed with the remainder of the deck. The burncard remains on the table.
