7-card stud is the most basic poker game. In fact it is still
very much alive unlike, draw poker that is now termed as old school
and 5-card stud is too rare to even speak about. It is a game of
choice for the hard-nut players. The rules of this game are as
follows:
This game is defined by its betting limit. The lower stakes games
are usually between $2-$4 and the higher limit games are between
$10-$20. To my sheer surprise, I have seen a land stud game at
$100-$200 or even higher. But, such high limits are not available
on the net. The game's betting limits tells the player pretty much
everything they want to know about the game. What I mean is that,
they know everything in terms of the nature of the game, the expectations
of the players playing the game and the size of the bankroll one
requires to play this game.
The minimum stud buy-in limit is usually 10 times more than the
lowest limit i.e. it is $20 for a $2 game. But nobody, including
me, who has played this game, will ever recommend playing with
the minimum limit.
In this game, a bet anywhere between $10-$20 is considered to
be a beginners game. A player needs high level of skills to play
the games with higher limits. A beginner or a player with any lesser
skills will find it very difficult to play the higher limit games.
Ante is a mandatory thing in the 7-card stud game. It keeps on
changing according to the betting limits.10% is the minimum ante
that is required. Though this 10% is usually for a lower limit
game with betting limit of a maximum $10. In case of games where
the betting limit is $100 or more, the ante is usually up to 25%.
Though you must have heard it the umpteenth time, it can never
be truer than the game of 7-card stud. The truth is that all the
above-mentioned rules are just the beginning of the game. It is
actually the strategy and the individuals skill set that really
make the game. For tips on the game, please refer to the 7-card
stud tips page on the website.
